When Lefty isn’t playing I will write about some other topics in the world of golf, please let me know what you think and I’m always open to suggestions…..
While watching the SBS Championship yesterday on the golf channel I couldn’t help but notice how much of the conversation was about the changes in groves on the PGA tour. If you haven’t been paying attention the USGA, in an attempt to lessen the amount of backspin players get out of the rough, have gone back to the old “V” style groves instead of the “U” groves players have been using lately. Some suggest that this will change the way the game is played, I don’t think that’s going to happen. The laser milling being done by the club manufacturers are still producing a lot of spin out of the rough and the players will adapt, they are the best in the world. I do not see Lefty skipping a beat just because he doesn’t have his “Mack Daddy” groves on his Callaway wedges. Will some flags become difficult to reach from the rough? Of course, but I do not see players using a 3 wood off the tee more often to hit the fairway just because their wedges don’t have as much bite as last year.
